The
All China Leather Exhibition '99 (ACLE '99), the international leather
event of China held from October 11 - 14, 1999 at Shanghai Mart, Shanghai,
P.R. China concluded with very encouraging response from both exhibitors
and visitors. The
fair was jointly organised by the Asia Pacific Leather Fair Ltd and
the China Leather Industry Association, ACLE '99.
Exhibitors
Spanning over an exhibition area of 11,600 sqm, ACLE '99 gathered 364
exhibitors with 187 from Chinese Mainland in the Domestic Hall and 177
from 28 countries and regions outside the Mainland including Argentina,
Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong
Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Macau, Mexico, Norway, Pakistan,
Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the
United Kingdom, the USA and Vietnam in the International Hall. The event
covered a full spectrum of exhibits, ranging from raw materials, chemicals
and dyes, machinery components and accessories to finished goods such
as footwear, leather garments and leathergoods.
Buyers
The fair recorded 6,642 trade buyers. Over 50 per centof the buyers
originated from outside Shanghai, and in particular from the provinces
of Zhejiang (11per cent), Jiangsu (8 per cent), Fujian and Guangdong
(6 per cent). Around 9.3 per cent came from overseas countries including
Taiwan, Korea, Japan, the USA, Italy, Australia, Singapore and Thailand.
According to the visitor survey conducted by the organisers, buyers
were very pleased with the new products and the latest technologies
presented at the exhibition and the large number of participating countries
also provided them with the most comprehensive sourcing forum for various
kinds of leather products at different price ranges.
Other
events
ACLE '99 was more than just an exhibition. A series of special events
was held in conjunction with the exhibition, gathering the leather industry
professionals from all over China and their overseas counterparts and
offering the most updated market information. These events included
the National Leather Industry Conference, "Genuine Leather Mark Cup"
Leather Shoes & Garments Design Competition, China-UNIDO Tannery
Programme: Dissemination Workshop, the Asia Committee of ICHSLTA Meeting,
fashion shows and technical seminars such as "Enzymes Application in
Leather Industry" and "Important Facts by the Automative and Upholstery
Leather Production." They also provided great opportunities for enchancing
Sino-foreign techological exchange and business cooperation.
