Common Mistakes
in Sewing
- Thread ends
not burnt.
- Linings not
shorter than vamp edge by 6-8 mm.
- Dirty uppers.
- Too much adhesive
used. Indian companies use 50-100 per cent more adhesive than required.
This makes the leather loose.
- French bindings
too thick. This is due to bindings not being split to 0.4 mm.
- Wrinkles in
lining/tongue lining. This is caused by not pasting on the round.
- Stitches not
locked at ends.
- Heelgrip not
buffed on grain side. As a result counter does not stick well to lining.
- Skiving not
done correctly and prints through upper.
- All interlinings
not caught in stitching.
- Back seems too
bulky. Seam allowance is too much and uppers not rubbed well before
taping.
- No tape used
on toplines. As a result toplines sag.
- Tape under saddle
not caught in stitching.
- Vamp lining
edges not skived.
- U binding has
air gap because the guide is incorrect or stitching faulty.
- Needle scratched.
- Wrong needle
/ thread used.
