Heavy cleated solings will continue to be a popular feature of both yound and mature casual markets. Most materials can give adequate. Slip and Flex Crack Resistance but crepe rubber and hard thermoplastic materials can be slippery on wet and icy surfaces.

Design of cleates is vitally important to give maximum slip resistance and prevent flex cracking on winter footwear.

For more grip well defined leading edges are best. Radius all internal corners to help prevent crecking.

Avoid patters where particles of water can get trapped and those will long unbroken cleats running in the heel to toe direction.
