Stitching Tips
A wide variety of direct sole to uppper stitch constructions are now available. With today's demands for soft flexible footwear these methods of sole attachments will continue into future seasons.

Popular constructions are:
* Side wall stitched
* Veldtschoen
* Opanke
* San Crispino
* Moccasin.
* Corner Stitched

Each of these constructions has different features. As general guide:

1. Ensure the upper is shapped and a suitable fit for the sole unit.

2. Sole units should have adequate stitch tear strength (25 N/mm minimum).

3. Where design allows, atitching should be set in grooves or channels to give added protection against abrasioin.
4. Use bonded nylon or polyester threads.
5. Stitching should be lock-stitched (chain stitiching is not recommended).
6. The thinkness of the wall in the stitching area should be minimum tear strength of 3mm.
7. Reinforce uppers where necessary to achieve a minimum tear strength of 100 N
8. Use good quality soling materials.
